NCCD Board Member Serves on PD Review Panel
Theron Bowman, PhD, retired chief of the Arlington [Texas] Police Department and a member of the NCCD Board of Directors, was named to a panel of national experts charged with reviewing the policies and practices of the Fort Worth Police Department. Dr. Bowman will use his considerable expertise to co-lead the independent eight-member panel as they evaluate how the department can improve and retain public trust following the October police shooting of 28-year-old Atatiana Jefferson in her Fort Worth home.
Dr. Bowman began his law enforcement career in 1983 as an officer with the Arlington Police Department, eventually becoming police chief in 1999. Most recently, he served as deputy city manager over Arlington’s Neighborhood Services before retiring in 2017; he currently serves as president and CEO of Theron L. Bowman, Inc. Dr. Bowman led regional public safety efforts for the 2010 NBA All-Star Game, MLB World Series games, and Super Bowl XLV, and was recognized by the African American Peace Officer Association of Arlington as the Officer of the Year.
