Beverly and Baron Walker

Six months after his release from prison, Baron Walker and his wife, Beverly, are moving forward. While Baron’s 20-plus years in prison were a major stressor for his family, he did his best to stay connected to his children by recording himself reading stories and singing to them. He also took advantage of every training and educational opportunity he was offered during his incarceration. A documentary, Milwaukee 53206, prominently features the Walker family and received NCCD’s 2017 Media for a Just Society award in the film category. Milwaukee’s NPR affiliate recently checked in with the Walkers on life post-release. You can read or listen to the story here. To learn more about the Media for a Just Society awards, click here.
