Gun Violence in Madison: Behind Flashes of Violence Lie Histories of Unaddressed Trauma

Madison, Wisconsin, has always been a relatively safe city—and continues to be. However, a spike in gun violence over the past several years has put some residents and city leaders on edge, leading to a first-time attempt at bringing together a number of entities to work toward ending the violence. A key aspect of their work is to look at unaddressed childhood trauma. The Wisconsin State Journal is publishing a week-long series of articles on the violence and the community’s response.
