Girls in Secure Juvenile Detention in Florida

September 25, 2019 | by NCCD and the Delores Barr Weaver Policy Center

A brief titled “Girls in Secure Detention in Florida” was released today by NCCD to provide insight on keeping girls who don’t pose a public safety risk out of Florida’s juvenile justice system. The timing of the release is tied to a statewide press conference being held today in Tallahassee by the Children’s Campaign and the Delores Barr Weaver Policy Center. With support from the Jessie Ball duPont Fund, the Policy Center partnered with NCCD to produce the brief. The press conference will include discussion regarding a number of studies being released this week, with an emphasis on the need for prevention and early intervention services and strategies so girls do not become involved in the juvenile justice system. NCCD’s brief is available here.
