First CJ Project Article: Solitary Confinement in NM
The CJ Project yielded its first article March 6 with the publication of a report by Mary Hudetz outlining the treatment of incarcerated individuals with mental illness while in solitary confinement in New Mexico. Multiple individuals have successfully sued the state over the conditions of their solitary confinement, prompting a bill in the New Mexico state legislature that would limit solitary confinement use in prisons and jails across the state. Versions of Hudetz’s report were published by several media outlets: Read the AP version of the article here and the NewsOK version here. The CJ Project is a collaboration between NCCD, the Asian American Journalists Association, and Investigative Reporters and Editors. Read more about the CJ Project here.
