Campus Provides Year-Round Housing for Foster Youths

October 22, 2013 | by Ryann BlackshereThe Chronicle of Social Change

San Francisco State University becomes the first public university to offer year-round housing for students who are former foster youth. This type of housing is especially helpful for students from the foster care system, many of whom do not have families to return to on holidays and summer break. In 2009, California passed the Assembly Bill 1393 mandating public universities grant foster youth priority access to housing. San Francisco State takes the lead in this effort, with the belief that secure housing will make it easier for these students to be successful and matriculate.
