Executive Order Embodies Systemic Racism
By now, many of you have read President Trump’s executive order on Combating Race and Sex Stereotyping. The order prohibits federal agencies, contractors, grantees, and the military from delivering training to employees that contains content that he and his administration define as “un-American propaganda.” Most notably, this means anything that references systemic racism or sexism in our nation’s history, institutions, and policies, and specifically calls out curriculum that refers to privilege and anti-racism.
It isn’t hard to see this for what it really is, and it is abhorrent in nature on many levels. The executive order, ironically, represents the epitome of systemic racism and sexism in plain sight. It is power and privilege at its worst being used to gaslight us about what “un-American propaganda” is. This order is un-American propaganda.
NCCD rejects the very premise upon which this executive order is founded. We are resolute in our aim to address system-level inequities and injustices. We will also continue investing in our internal work to build an inclusive and equitable workplace community. I’m incredibly proud of what we’ve accomplished to date, both within our organization and with our client partners. Antiracism and racial equity work are more important than ever to ensure we can fulfill our mission of just and equitable systems. We will press forward.
