Media for a Just Society Awards Call for Entries

November 28, 2017 | by NCCD

NCCD is now accepting submissions for its 2018 Media for a Just Society Awards. These awards are the only national recognition of media that further public understanding of criminal justice, juvenile justice, child welfare, and adult protection. We seek stories that illustrate current realities or the promise of reform, especially those that help people understand the complex issues surrounding the nation’s social systems.

Categories include book, film, print/online journalism, radio, television/video, and youth media. Past winners include author Jesmyn Ward (Men We Reaped: A Memoir), journalist Ta-Nehisi Coates ("The Black Family in the Age of Mass Incarceration"), NPR correspondent Joseph Shapiro (Guilty and Charged), David Simon (creator of HBO’s The Wire), filmmaker Ava DuVernay (13th), and other illustrious journalists, writers, and filmmakers.

The submission deadline for works released in 2017 is December 31, 2017. An online entry form is required for each piece submitted. For further instructions click here.

Entries must be submitted by the creators of the work or their representatives. If you would like to nominate someone else’s work, please contact the NCCD communications team at communications@nccdglobal.org.
